ABP takes the risk of wildfire damage to our plantations seriously and has established a number of preventative and protective measures.
Our staff and contractors are formally trained in fire control, with fire control vehicles and equipment positioned across our estate. Water points are strategically located and maintained regularly, whilst weed control procedures help reduce fuel loads. Fire breaks are maintained according to local regulations and industry standards, as well as vehicle turning points for firefighter safety.
Conducting operations while fire indices are high are managed in line with both forest industry and local authority requirements. When necessary ABP management call a harvest and vehicle movement ban to minimise the potential for fire on the ABP estate.
