ABP opens estate gates to inspire the next generation of leaders

At ABP, we know great leaders don’t just appear. Great leaders often start out as students needing real, hands-on experience, which we recently provided in spades.

ABP recently hosted students in The Young Leaders Program for an educational day out in the forestry and plantation industry.

The program, run by The Glenelg and Southern Grampians Local Learning and Employment Network, is designed to give Year 10 and 11 students hands-on experiences that provide a real taste of what their future careers could look like.

For ABP, it was an exciting opportunity to share exactly what goes on at our estates – and the unique roles that keep our operations ticking.

In return, students got a firsthand look at a busy harvest site in Digby, before heading to Heywood to explore silviculture practices. They ended their day with an exclusive tour of the port site in Portland.

While some students had an idea of the jobs available in forestry and woodchip production, the use of drones and constantly evolving technology caught them by surprise – and quickly became a fan favourite!

By the end of the experience, the young leaders had connected with our industry’s unique professionals and transformed their views of the world of work.

The Young Leaders Program aims to build our next generation’s leadership capabilities, confidence and knowledge while supporting local communities. Since its launch in 2021, the program has added immense value to the lives of students across the South Grampians region.

As one of the largest plantation managers and woodchip exporters in the world, ABP is proud to contribute as a program sponsor and industry partner.
